LEANNE BERKAHN

Dr Leanne Berkahn is a highly respected consultant haematologist with a specialised focus on Hodgkin lymphoma. With an extensive career spanning over two decades, Dr. Berkahn has made significant contributions to the field of haematology both in New Zealand and internationally.

Dr Berkahn completed her Haematology/Transplant fellowship in Canada, followed by a role as a bone marrow transplant physician in Chicago. She returned to New Zealand when her family was young and has since established herself as a leading figure in haematology at Auckland Hospital, where she has worked for the past 20 years.

In addition to her clinical practice in both public and private settings, Dr Berkahn plays a crucial role in shaping the future of haematology through her leadership positions. She serves as the Chair of the regional Lymphoma Multidisciplinary Meeting (MDM) and Co-chair of Lymphoma NZ, demonstrating her commitment to advancing care and research in lymphoma.

Dr Berkahn's leadership extends to her past role as President of the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand, a position she notably was the first New Zealand-based person to hold.

As a Principal Investigator, Dr Berkahn is actively involved in pioneering clinical trials exploring new therapies for lymphoma, leukaemia, and myelodysplastic syndrome. She is a significant contributor to the Australasian Lymphoma Leukaemia Group (ALLG), advancing research and treatment in these areas.

Her academic contributions are equally noteworthy. Dr Berkahn has served as a clinical lecturer at Auckland Medical School and has also held the position of Assistant Professor at Rush University in Chicago. She has published widely on Hodgkin lymphoma and has educated and mentored the next generation of haematologists.

Dr Berkahn's extensive experience, leadership, and dedication to haematology and research make her a prominent figure in her field, continually pushing the boundaries of medical science and patient care.
